
ORBRO joins a national R&D project on ISAC, a core 6G technology, and sets out to build a converged communication and sensing validation platform
Securing backend technology for next-generation 6G services, with expected use in smart cities and disaster response

ORBRO (CEO Lee Hak-kyung) is participating in a national R&D project titled "Development of core radio component technology for sensing and communication using the same frequency," promoted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Institute of Information & Communications Technology Planning & Evaluation (IITP).
In this project ORBRO takes sole charge of building a 6G PoC (proof of concept) system that converges communication and sensing, and develops the core backend system for performance validation and data analysis in the validation environment.
The project is a large-scale research effort to develop an integrated communication and sensing system based on E-MIMO (Extreme massive MIMO), with the commercialization of next-generation sixth-generation (6G) communication technology as its goal. SOLiD serves as the lead institution, and seven industry, academic and research institutions including ORBRO carry out the research jointly. The core technology is a system that can perform communication and sensing simultaneously using the same frequency in the 7.125 to 8.5 GHz upper-mid band.
By carrying out high-speed real-time data transmission and reception alongside precise distance measurement at the base station level, it can support advanced services such as autonomous driving, disaster rescue and smart cities. At the validation stage of this system, ORBRO builds the PoC platform and implements functions including real-time location tracking, communication status analysis and data anomaly detection. In doing so it takes on the role of quantitatively evaluating the performance of the overall system and confirming the potential for commercialization, based on data collected in real usage environments.
An ORBRO representative said, "The PoC system is both a testbed for judging the effectiveness of converged communication and sensing technology and the foundation for future technology commercialization," adding, "By designing the backend structure of the integrated platform precisely and optimizing performance in real environments, we will secure core technology suited to the 6G era." The project runs over three years, with beamforming IC design, SIC circuit technology, FPGA-based signal processing implementation and AI-based beam power control technology developed in stages.
By contributing to validation testing and to the final performance verification of the converged communication and sensing system, ORBRO plans to expand its own data platform technology while further strengthening its 6G-related technology portfolio. The backend platform ORBRO develops can be applied to a range of industries in the future, including disaster response systems, smart city infrastructure and precise positioning services. Built on real-time analysis and high-reliability data processing, it is expected to lay the groundwork for creating new services converged with communication infrastructure.
