ORBRO successfully completes pilot deployment at CJ Logistics Gonjiam fulfillment center

Verifying the effectiveness of vehicle location tracking and automatic dock assignment, confirming the potential to advance fulfillment center operations

ORBRO Inc. announced that it has successfully completed a pilot deployment of a vehicle location tracking and automatic dock assignment system at the CJ Logistics Gonjiam fulfillment center. The pilot was carried out to improve visibility of vehicle positions inside the center and to improve the efficiency of dock operations.

The Gonjiam Mega Hub is known as CJ Logistics' flagship smart logistics base, a core facility that handles large volumes on the strength of automated equipment and information systems. CJ Logistics operates the Gonjiam Mega Hub as an advanced logistics base that has received Grade 1 smart logistics center certification from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and has described it as having the capacity to handle roughly 1.75 million parcels a day.

In this pilot, ORBRO tracked vehicle positions precisely to a level of about ±30 cm based on UWB RTLS and ORBRO OS, and used that as the basis for an automatic dock assignment structure. The key point is that it validated a digital operating environment that reflects vehicle position, dock status and operational data together, moving away from an operating method centered on CCTV, radio exchanges and manual assignment.

The results of the pilot were also confirmed. According to the accompanying materials, vehicle location tracking shifted from a CCTV-dependent method to precise tracking based on UWB tags, improving visibility and accuracy, and dock assignment improved from a manual method to automatic assignment based on RTLS and an algorithm. Response time was also shortened from an average of more than 15 minutes to within 3 to 5 minutes, a reduction of more than 70%.

There was a change on the operational data side as well. As waiting time, turnover rate and vehicle movement information are recorded and analyzed automatically, the control structure has moved away from partial, reactive handling toward data-based management that can be used for operational optimization, according to ORBRO.

The project shows that ORBRO's location-based operating technology can translate into real gains in operational efficiency at a fulfillment center. ORBRO plans to keep expanding the scope of location-based solutions that support vehicle control and dock operation optimization across a range of sites including fulfillment centers, hub terminals and integrated logistics bases.
